The Sceptre 41 was one of the first fiberglass boats to successfully merge a pilot house plan with a seaworthy design capable of safely cruising the oceans of the world. Her designer, Hein Driehuyzen, knew the basics of a good cruising boat: tankage low in the boat with good capacity; a design engineered to accommodate all the stores and equipment required for an extended cruise; materials and construction methods that will last in an often harsh marine environment; a hull shape that is comfortable in a seaway; and a sail plan that is versatile and easily handled by a cruising couple. With an inside helm station and raised dinette, her crew will take advantage of the beautiful scenery without suffering in the elements. The cockpit, sheltered behind a tempered glass windshield and canvas dodger with full enclosure, is equally protected. A walk-through transom to the extended swim platform makes for easy access to the water, dock or dinghy.
TRYSTE is an excellent example of this legendary high quality and heavily built bluewater cruiser. She has the Plan B interior which, in our opinion, lends itself far more to long range comfortable cruising in all kinds of weather. Her interior, exterior and equipment are in exceptional condition thanks to having three sets of very knowledgeable and caring owners as well as having spent the last 10 years in the fresh waters of the Great Lakes.
All in all, it's not surprising that the Sceptre 41 was chosen by Ferenc Mate for his famous book, Worlds Best Sailboats. She was also very favorably reviewed by noted naval architect Robert Perry.
